Influence of Pigmentation on the Codeine Content of Hair Fibers in Guinea Pigs

1997

Tortoise shell guinea pigs (n = 7) were administered codeine (1 mg/mL codeine-base) in their drinking water for 3 weeks. Black, reddish-brown and white hair was collected separately from each animal before and after treatment. The hair samples were analyzed by GC/MS. The experiment showed positive results for all hair fibers with large individual variability of drug incorporation. Low drug intake resulted in small differences of the drug content in hair fibers different in color, whereas in cases of high drug intake a strong influence of hair pigmentation on the analytical results was observed. The highest drug content was always found in black hair samples, non-pigmented hair showed the lo…

Vergleichende Untersuchungen ber Morphologie und Histogenese des Seminoms und Disgerminoms

1951

Lymphatic vessels are present in human saccular intracranial aneurysms

2022

AbstractSaccular intracranial aneurysm (sIA) rupture leads to subarachnoid haemorrhage and is preceded by chronic inflammation and atherosclerotic changes of the sIA wall. Increased lymphangiogenesis has been detected in atherosclerotic extracranial arteries and in abdominal aortic aneurysms, but the presence of lymphatic vessels in sIAs has remained unexplored. Here we studied the presence of lymphatic vessels in 36 intraoperatively resected sIAs (16 unruptured and 20 ruptured), using immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence stainings for lymphatic endothelial cell (LEC) markers. Of these LEC-markers, both extracellular and intracellular LYVE-1-, podoplanin-, VEGFR-3-, and Prox1-positive…

Ultrastructural changes of the oenocytes of Gryllus bimaculatus DEG (Saltatoria, Insecta) during the moulting cycle

1974

1. The oenocytes of Gryllus bimaculatus are characterized by an abundant smooth-surfaced ER (ATER). In spite of the great cell size the plasma membrane never shows extensive infoldings during the moulting cycle. In addition to mitochondria there are very large numbers of microbodies containing peroxidase but apparently not uricase. Within the second part of the instar the microbodies lie along the clefts which run through the whole cell. 2. The following changes are observed in the course of a moulting cycle: Immediately after hatching the ATER is scarcely developed, some liposomes are located within areas of ATER disappearing some hours later. 20 hours after emergence glycogen deposits app…

Haptoglobintypenbestimmung mittels vertikaler Sulenelektrophorese in Polyacrylamidgel

1972

Forensic comparison of PVC tape backings using time resolved LA-ICP-MS analysis

2019

Abstract Adhesive tapes are common tools for criminal acts such as the construction of improvised explosive devices. Hence, tape samples can be used as evidence to link a suspect to a scene of crime or different crime scenes to each other. A set of 87 black electrical tapes was the subject of a study evaluating a LA-ICP-MS method for the characterization of tape backings regarding their elemental composition in a forensic context. LA-ICP-MS is a powerful tool in forensic investigations due to fast, quasi nondestructive analysis of small samples and detection or determination of elements up to the ultra-trace range. In this study, the development of a semiquantitative LA-ICP-MS method for fo…

Confocal microscopy study of the distribution, content and activity of mitochondria during Paracentrotus lividus development

2007

Summary In the present paper we applied confocal microscopy andfluorescence technologies for studying the distribution andthe oxidative activity of sea urchin ( Paracentrotus lividus )mitochondria during development, by in vivo incubating eggsand embryos with cell-permeant MitoTracker probes. Wecalculated, by a mathematical model, the intensity values, the variations of intensity, and the variation index of incorporatedfluorochromes. Data demonstrate that mitochondrial massdoes not change during development, whereas mitochondrialrespirationincreases.Inaddition,startingfrom16blastomeresstage, some regions of the embryo contain organelles moreactive in oxygen consumption. Introduction The con…

Histopathological and immunohistochemical aspects of bone tissue in aseptic necrosis of the femoral head

2021

Femoral head osteonecrosis, also known as avascular necrosis, is a disease with a multifactorial etiology, characterized by a profound change of bone architecture, which leads to the diminishing of bone resistance and femoral head collapse. The main causes that lead to femoral head necrosis are represented by the decrease of local blood perfusion and increase of intraosseous pressure, because of an excessive development of adipose tissue in the areolas of the trabecular bone tissue in the femoral head. The histopathological and immunohistochemical (IHC) study performed by us showed that most of bone trabeculae were damaged by necrotic-involutive processes, their sizes being reduced, both re…

Atypical posterior circulation strokes: a case-based review of rare anatomical variations involved

2021

The circle of Willis is a very important vascular mechanism of protecting against cerebral ischemia, especially when circulation within the main arteries irrigating the brain is somehow impeded. As result of congenital malformation arising early in embryonic development, the fetal-type posterior circle of Willis remains as such during the rest of one's life. Consequently, the posterior cerebral artery (PCA) becomes a branch of the internal carotid artery (ICA), rather than of the basilar artery (BA). Furthermore, the rest of collateral circulation, between the anterior and the posterior regions of the brain, is also negatively affected (e.g., leptomeningeal vessels). The anatomical variant …
